PR 6.5 - Vereda do Pico Fernandes

About This Trail

This 3.8 km upland trail on the Paul da Serra plateau follows an old footpath from ER209 to connect with PR 6 Levada das 25 Fontes at 25 Fontes lagoon. High-altitude heath predominates at the start, giving way to species like lily-of-the-valley-tree, til, and laurel as elevation decreases. The magnificent panoramic view from Pico Fernandes or Rabaçal viewpoint offers a potential 360-degree vista of Paul da Serra plateau on clear days. At 25 Fontes, hikers encounter an exceptional example of a suspended aquifer—a site of such geological importance it's classified as geosite C01. This 1.5-hour journey combines plateau wandering with descent into a remarkable geological feature.
