PR 6.1 - Levada do Risco
About This Trail
This easy 1.5 km trail shares the initial section with PR 6 but diverges to reach a more dramatic reward: the Risco Waterfall, which falls vertically like a white line against dark rock. The 1-1.5 hour walk showcases the lush Laurissilva forest—part of Madeira's UNESCO World Heritage site—alongside centennial heathlands creating an unforgettable scene. At about 1,000 meters altitude, the trail offers unobstructed views over Madeira's natural heritage while remaining manageable for hikers of all abilities. The dense forest canopy provides shelter, though rainy days make the ground slippery, requiring extra caution on this otherwise pristine nature walk.
