About This Trail
This short 1.8 km downhill royal road descends from Prazeres parish at 550m to Paul do Mar at 16m elevation in just 1 hour 20 minutes, showcasing agricultural terraces throughout. Historically, locals used this route for commercial purposes, with Paul do Mar residents using it to reach cliff tops for farming and fish-selling activities. Just before descending to Paul do Mar, hikers pass Lombo da Rocha viewpoint offering vast Atlantic Ocean views and picturesque vistas of fishing villages Paul do Mar and Jardim do Mar. Endemic flora including pride of Madeira and Madeira mountain stock adorns the slopes, making this discovery trail a celebration of regional commerce history and natural beauty.
