About This Event

The official start of the Christmas and New Year celebrations takes place on December 1st and is marked by the moment when the wonderful Christmas lights are turned on in the capital's downtown. Madeira enters a party atmosphere, a spirit that infects locals and visitors, so much so that the island seems to not sleep until January. Gastronomic tastings are held and there is constant entertainment in the city's various avenues and squares, keeping Funchal in a continuous atmosphere of fun, culture and Christmas spirit. On New Year's Eve, or in the first minutes of January, the pyrotechnic display that has already been included in the Guinness Book of Records brings us the magic of the height of this great festival, invading our bay with the most varied colors and shapes.
